We
invite you to become a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, too. How can you do
this? Well, here's the basics. | It
begins with admitting. The Bible says "for all have sinned and fall
short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23 NIV). |
Every
one of us has broken some commandment
of God. We have envied our neighbors; we have not told the truth; we have
not honored our parents. And we all have an excuse for what we have done. But
to become a follower of Jesus Christ we are brought to admitting that we are sinners
with no excuses to offer. | Next,
is believing. The Bible tells us more. "This is love: not that we
loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our
sins." (1 John 4:10 NIV). | |
People
think many things of Jesus Christ. Some people think of Jesus as a good man or
as a good teacher or as a good reformer. But followers of Jesus Christ are brought
to belief that Jesus Christ is more than those things. Jesus Christ is the Son
of God and He is the only way to be forgiven of our sins. Then,
comes considering. We read in the Bible, "That if you confess with
your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9 NIV). Someone
has said that while the entrance into the Christian life is free, the annual subscription
costs everything we have! Jesus Himself said, "If anyone would come after
me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever
wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save
it." (Luke 9:24-25 NIV). Consider
the cost of saying no to sin. The Christian life begins with repentance or turning
away from our sins to follow Jesus Christ. Consider
the cost of saying no to self. The Christian life is one of living with Jesus
Christ first and foremost of everything else - including ourselves. After
this comes the doing. This is what we mean about having faith in Jesus
Christ. It means accepting the facts of Jesus as true and acting upon what you
believe to be true. Alistar
McGrath uses this analogy to explain. If I am dying from blood poisoning and am
offered a bottle of penicillin, I have some options. 1. I may accept that this
bottle of penicillin exists. 2. I may trust that it is capable of curing my
sickness. But I will never be cured of my blood poisoning unless - 3. I act
upon that trust and take the penicillin. Mere mental acceptance of the facts
of Jesus Christ and His life do not bring us to salvation any more reading a good
book makes me friends with the author. I must move beyond being aware of the existence
of Jesus Christ to having a living relationship with Him. If
you have read this, then it is a safe assumption that you desire to be a follower
of Jesus Christ. We encourage you to take action now - not later. How able you
are to communicate what is in your mind and heart are not so important as a sincere
response to Jesus Christ. To
help you, below is a simple prayer.
"Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am a sinner
in need of forgiveness. I believe that You are the
only hope for me, the only way of salvation. I want
to turn my life and sins over to You and trust in
your sacrifice. I surrender my life to You completely.
Help me live my life for you by the power of your
Holy Spirit."
We
hope that this prayer is true expression of your new faith in Jesus Christ! It
is very important that you get a Bible and read it. Maybe start in the Gospel
of John. And it is very important that you find other Christians and attend
church with them. This
will give you the first steps in a new life as a passionate follower of Jesus
Christ! |
