MESSAGE
FROM THE PASTOR August
2005 Pastor

LEGACY:
a gift; something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or
from the past. Legacy
is what each member of God's family has received from God through Noah, Joseph,
Moses, David, Daniel, Matthew, Luke, Paul, and Timothy. It is what has been transmitted
to us through people like Augustine, Athanasius, Clement, Zwingli, Luther, and
Calvin. We have received it from William Tyndale, John Bunyan, Jonathan Edwards,
David Brainerd, Robert Murray M'Cheyene, C.H. Spurgeon, and D.L. Moody. We see
it being passed on through the hands of Martin Lloyd-Jones, Billy Graham, Jack
Hayford, and possibly your own grandparents. What
is this legacy? Testimonies of God's character; eyewitness accounts of God's faithfulness;
written records of God's truth; the preaching of the Gospel; the teaching of the
birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ; the powerful
examples of lives filled with the Holy Spirit. Covenant
Community Church is filled with stories of legacies. Some of those legacies have
been passed on to us; others are being built right now to be passed along later.
August 14th in the morning service we are going to focus on legacy - both receiving
one and giving one. The service will include individuals sharing the godly legacies
they have received or are receiving from others even within the congregation.
Wayne Austin will be our special guest that morning in the pulpit. I
personally invite you to consider the great legacy we have as God's people; to
rejoice in the wonder of God that has been passed along through generations of
faithful, godly people, and to think about how you are building on that legacy. Pastor
