MESSAGE
FROM THE PASTOR June
2005 Pastor
Jeff Stanfill
The
haze and humidity of summer has arrived. We did have a great spring season this
year filled with enjoyable weather. This is not a weather report though it may
sound like it. Its an introduction to an overview of our upcoming summer
here at Covenant. There
are certainly no lazy days of summer here! Three special services
are part of our summer. The first is June 12 in the evening. David and Teresa
Greenhough will minister that night. Most of you will likely remember Teresa from
a few years ago as our guest for the fall womens conference. The Greenhoughs
serve in India, Teresas home country. The service promises to be enlightening
of what God is doing in India and also a powerful time of personal ministry through
the Holy Spirit. Then
in July, Don Logan will be with us for the morning of July 24th. Reverend Logan
is my pastor. Having served with him in ministry for over nine years he is still
a mentor and pastor to me. Since retiring from 30-plus years of pastoral
ministry, Pastor Logan is currently vice-president of the School of Urban Missions
in New Orleans. Pastor Logans character has always been exemplary and his
reputation in the pulpit as a spokesman for the Lord is growing. Another
service (the date not finalized as of yet) will be with Wayne Austin. Many of
you recognize the name from his many years of pastoral ministry here in the Baton
Rouge area. Presently, Wayne serves on staff at Healing Place Church. This service
will have a special focus on our senior members (Translated: those
older than me!). A
very special day will be July 3 our all-church picnic! As we did last year,
we will worship together that Sunday morning and then go to Camp Istrouma for
an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship. And
then there is Vacation Bible School, our summer outreach as a church. Melanie
Mackey will be leading us the week of June 20 24 as we disciple our children
and reach out to a goal of 40 other children to present Christ to them. There
is more information on VBS here in the June News section. And
of course summer camps! So,
you see there are no lazy days of summer here at Covenant! More than promoting
these events, I point you to participating in them with us. Being with us in these
services, events, and weeks of ministry will strengthen the bond between you and
the other believers of Covenant. Whether you belong to the Body of Christ here
at Covenant, or are just visiting, come and enjoy being in the community of believers
that live with a passion for God and compassion for people.
