Report
of Gods Faithfulness
On
August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina slashed through
our area and left hundreds of thousands without electricity,
drinkable water, and many families homeless. Evacuees
from farther south of Baton Rouge, many of whom lost
everything, filled our city and more places across
the United States. Before the end of that week Covenant
Community Church was mobilizing to help and assist
those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
We thank God for His enablement to reflect His goodness
to those in need. To date with the help of others
Covenant Community Church has directly:
- Established
a separate relief fund to receive and disburse contributions
from across the
United States.
- Provided
school supplies for 150 newly enrolled Central Middle
School children.
- Provided
uniforms or partial uniforms for over 60 newly enrolled
students in East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish
schools.
- Provided
for monetary needs of displaced families.
- Provided
assistance for host families of evacuees.
- Supported
a relief shelter at Faith Baptist Church with funds
and staff.
- Coordinated
three out-ofstate relief teams with more scheduled
to come.
- Congregational
families have housed relief team members and displaced
people.
Adopted a New Orleans pastoral family now living
in Baton Rouge by providing friendship, assistance,
and opportunities to minister.
- Made
several trips to Washington Parish to help clear
and clean debris.
- Provided
financial support for a local pastor in Washington
Parish.
- Provided
pantry foods for two displaced families.
- Aided
a congregational family that lost their home.
- Collected,
purchased, and distributed clothing, food and water
locally and in other affected areas.
Thanks
to each of you who have helped in every way you could.
Covenant has been more than generous with the resources
God has given us. We realize that we are being just
one of countless other fellowships of believers that
are salt and light in our world.
The
recovery work is still in progress and will be for
many more months.
As
resources allow we will continue to respond to the
needs God brings within our reach. If you would like
to contribute to the work please volunteer or give
an offering to the relief fund.
Pastor
Jeff
Due
to the effect of the recent storms and the continuing
relief and recovery work, our fall Bible conference
has been postponed. The new date will be announced.
